Fly in to Harlingen's Valley International Airport or Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport. Continental Airlines and American Airlines (beginning June 11) flies into Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport. Continental Airlines, Southwest Airlines and SunCountry Airlines fly into Valley International Airport in Harlingen. Transportation is available to and from both airports.

WAVE Buses

The WAVE is the FREE shuttle system serving South Padre Island and Port Isabel. There are a number of convenient WAVE stops in both communities, however, you can also just go near the street and wave when one is approaching! Normal hours are 7am-7pm (extended hours during the summer). The buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts (ADA Accessible) and bicycle racks. It's a great, free way to get from one place to another or just sit back and see the entire area!

The WAVE also connects in Port Isabel to the Rio Transit Shuttle that will take passengers to Brownsville, including the Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport. There is a minimal fee for the ride to Brownsville.

WAVE buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts. Those persons needing additional information regarding ADA accessibility of the buses, and/or individual eligibility for ADA paratransit services, please call Public Works at 956-761-1025. In addition, the WAVE Policy Handbook has information related to ADA policies and procedures.

The Wave connects to the Rio Gulf Coast Shuttle in Port Isabel near Church's Chicken in the Las Palmas Shopping Center at the intersection of Hwys 48 & 100. This service allows persons to travel directly between South Padre Island and the Port of Brownsville, the Brownsville/ South Padre Island International Airport, and downtown Brownsville's Market Square and the Brownsville Urban BUS system. There is a minimal fee to travel to and from Brownsville.
