In general, visitors can expect the following SPI surf conditions:
- Wave size: Wave size can vary by season and time of day. However, winter is the most popular time for South Padre Island surfing, as waves tend to be highest at that time of year. South Padre Island surfing lessons are held year-round for those looking to learn the ropes or improve their wave-riding skills. We recommend an early morning or late afternoon surf, where waves and crowds tend to be more favorable.
- Water Clarity & Conditions: SPI is known for some of the clearest water on the coast, making it ideal for surfing, swimming, snorkeling, and any other water sports. Visitors can enjoy these enjoyable water conditions year-round, as SPI’s weather averages 65 degrees throughout the year.
